Elistair, a leader in tethered drone technology, has joined forces with silvus Technologies, a pioneer in wireless data solutions, too create an advanced mobile-networked multiple input and multiple output (MN-MIMO) networking system tailored for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in combat scenarios.
The MN-MIMO technology leverages radio frequency (RF) waveforms to ensure reliable connectivity in challenging outdoor conditions characterized by limited range and interference. This innovative approach combines several dialogue methodologies, including coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (COFDM), MIMO antenna strategies, and mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) for digital communications. Silvus’ MN-MIMO systems are designed to deliver robust wireless video and data transmission for essential operations in military and law enforcement, particularly in urban, remote, and high-interference environments.
To enhance tactical surveillance capabilities, Silvus’ Streamcaster 4200 MIMO radio has been integrated into Elistair’s ORION tethered UAS. This collaboration aims to bolster situational awareness and communication efficiency. The ORION system is fully automated, ensuring secure operations with a compact design, extended flight duration, and resilience in adverse conditions.
Equipped with Silvus’ MANET technology, the ORION UAS can establish quickly deployable command, control, and communication (C3) networks. These networks enable seamless sharing of data and voice communications over long distances, even in complex terrains filled with obstacles. The drone operates at altitudes of up to 100 meters, powered through a tether connected to its ground station.
Initial trials of this integrated system in simulated battlefield settings have demonstrated its effectiveness, allowing operators to link dismounted troops, vehicles, aerial assets, and maritime units. This capability facilitates the transmission of multiple video feeds into a centralized control room, considerably enhancing situational awareness and tactical communication.
