Revolutionizing UAV Data Acquisition: Discover the Latest RIEGL Laser Scanning Solutions!

The latest developments in the RIEGL unmanned laser scanning product portfolio with the VUX-180²⁴, VUX-240²⁴, and miniVUX-Series RiLOC entry-level IMU/GNSS system

Innovative RIEGL Laser Scanning Solutions for UAV Data Collection

RIEGL has recently expanded its offerings with the introduction of the VUX-18024, VUX-24024 LiDAR sensors, and the miniVUX-series RiLOC entry-level IMU/GNSS system.

This latest enhancement reaffirms RIEGL’s leadership in delivering high-performance LiDAR sensors and systems designed for seamless integration with Unmanned Aerial systems (UAS).

The UAS sector is increasingly demanding laser scanners that are both performance-matched and survey-grade, suitable for use with compact multi-rotor drones as well as high-speed vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) or fixed-wing UAVs.

In response to this market trend, RIEGL has tailored its product lineup accordingly. The company’s renowned accuracy and precision, combined with multi-target capabilities, extensive measurement ranges, broad fields of view, exceptionally high laser pulse repetition rates, and rapid line speeds, form the foundation for user success.

These essential features enable UAS operations at optimal altitudes, maximizing area coverage. This not only significantly reduces field time and flight durations but also lowers overall costs while enhancing safety in UAS applications. Moreover, users can obtain more precise point cloud data with thorough coverage, thereby boosting the flexibility and efficiency of the platforms employed in various projects.

In summary: RIEGL’s high-performance sensors serve as the ideal tools for professional service providers engaged in UAS-based surveying.

RIEGL VUX-18024

Lightweight and Adaptable UAV LiDAR Sensor for Rapid Surveying Tasks

The newly launched RIEGL VUX-18024 features a generous 75-degree field of view and an extraordinary pulse repetition rate of up to 2.4 MHz. These attributes, along with a scanning speed of up to 800 lines per second, make it exceptionally suitable for high-speed surveying tasks where optimal line and point distribution is crucial. Common applications include the mapping and monitoring of vital infrastructure such as power lines, railways, pipelines, and runways. The VUX-18024 supports mechanical and electrical interfaces for IMU/GNSS integration and can accommodate up to five external cameras, maintaining the form factor of the VUX-16023. For efficient data storage, it includes an internal SSD with a capacity of 2 TB and a removable CFast memory card.

This sensor enhances RIEGL’s established VUX-12023, VUX-16023, and VUX-24024 series and is available as a standalone unit or as part of various fully integrated laser scanning system configurations with IMU/GNSS systems and optional cameras.

RIEGL VUX-24024

Lightweight Aerial LiDAR Sensor with Superior Scanning Capabilities

The RIEGL VUX-24024 represents an upgraded version of the well-regarded RIEGL VUX-240, now featuring enhanced pulse repetition rates and faster scanning speeds for improved field performance and workflow efficiency. With a wide 75-degree field of view and a rapid data acquisition rate of up to 2.4 MHz, this sensor achieves a measurement rate of up to 2 million measurements per second, making it ideal for high point density applications such as power line, rail track, and pipeline inspections. Its increased scanning speed of up to 600 lines per second allows for operations from fast-flying UAVs, and also small helicopters, gyrocopters, and other crewed aircraft at altitudes reaching 4,700 feet.

Mechanical and electrical interfaces facilitate the optional integration of an IMU/GNSS system and up to four cameras. Data can be stored on the internal 2 TB SSD or via a removable CFAST memory card, enabling swift data transfer to a PC.

RIEGL miniVUX-Series

Now Featuring RiLOC, an Entry-Level IMU/GNSS system

Alongside the standalone versions of the RIEGL miniVUX-1UAV and miniVUX-3UAV LiDAR sensors, RIEGL also provides system solutions that include IMU/GNSS systems and cameras.

RIEGL now introduces RiLOC, an integrated component designed to enhance RIEGL’s kinematic LiDAR systems for the localization and orientation of LiDAR data within a reference coordinate system. This fully integrated subsystem, characterized by its compact and lightweight design, attaches directly to the miniVUX-1UAV or miniVUX-3UAV housing, with a total system weight of just 1.75 kg. RiLOC comprises one or two GNSS receivers, an inertial measurement unit, and a data acquisition controller with accompanying software. It utilizes tight coupling to process inertial, GNSS, and LiDAR data, offering a new entry-level option for RIEGL’s cost-effective UAS LiDAR system solutions.
