Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER S-100: A Vital Asset for Romanian Border Security in 2022
After a successful deployment in 2021, Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER S-100 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is once again enhancing the capabilities of the Romanian Border Police throughout 2022, with operations scheduled from March to August. This Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) is provided through the european Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
Operational Role and Achievements
Based in Mangalia, the CAMCOPTER S-100 plays a crucial role in assisting Romanian authorities with essential coast guard duties. Its responsibilities include ongoing surveillance and monitoring of maritime activities, ensuring port security, and responding to emergencies such as search and rescue operations. In the initial two months of deployment, the Romanian Border Police outlined plans for 50 missions, and the S-100 has already accumulated over 170 flight hours.
Advanced Technology for Enhanced Surveillance
The S-100 is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an L3 wescam Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera gimbal, an Overwatch Imaging PT-8 oceanwatch, a Becker Avionics BD406 Emergency Beacon Locator, and an Automatic Identification system (AIS) receiver. This sophisticated array of tools enables the UAV to perform its diverse tasks effectively.
Endorsements and Broader Impact
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, expressed pride in the ongoing collaboration, stating, “The effectiveness of our service was clearly evident during our previous operations in Romania last year, and we are honored to support the Romanian authorities once more.” He also noted that the EMSA has facilitated similar operations in various european nations, including denmark, Finland, Estonia, Spain, and France, showcasing the S-100’s versatility and reliability across different environments.
