Innovative Collaboration for Maritime Defense
Schiebel, in partnership with thales, has been awarded funding through the European Defense Fund to enhance unmanned systems aimed at anti-submarine adn seabed warfare.
SEACURE Consortium: A European Initiative
The SEACURE (Seabed and Anti-submarine Warfare Capability through Unmanned Technologies for Europe) consortium comprises 35 companies across 13 European countries. This initiative is focused on improving combined capabilities in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Seabed Warfare (SBW) by utilizing unmanned aerial, surface, and underwater vehicles to protect critical maritime assets. the primary goals include the detection, classification, identification, and monitoring of underwater threats in intricate environments.
CAMCOPTER® S-300: A Game-Changer in UAV Technology
For this project, Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER® S-300 has been selected as the Unmanned Aerial System. With a maximum take-off weight of 700 kg, the S-300 boasts remarkable endurance, surpassing 24 hours when equipped with its camera and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR), or approximately 6 hours with a 250 kg payload. it is the first operational Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) system in its class to reach such performance benchmarks. The SEACURE initiative is projected to culminate in a significant sea trial by 2028.
Vision for the Future
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, remarked, “Our collaboration with Thales on various ASW solutions for the S-100 has been fruitful since our initial involvement in the NATO exercise REPMUS in 2022. The S-300, with its extended endurance and enhanced payload capacity, presents numerous new opportunities for ASW and SBW. The SEACURE project aligns seamlessly with our development plans for the S-300, and we are honored to contribute to such a pivotal initiative.”
