Silicon Sensing Systems Ltd has announced the appointment of Dr. Mark Marshall as the new Chief Engineer, a strategic move aimed at advancing product progress and market introduction.
Dr. marshall has been with Silicon Sensing since 2017,where he has played a pivotal role as the lead engineer on various inertial technology initiatives. prior to his current position, he served as the Consultant engineer and Electronics Discipline Manager, overseeing the electronic and mechanical design of the company’s cutting-edge tactical grade Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), known as the DMU41.
Reflecting on the current landscape, Dr. Marshall stated, “We are witnessing transformative changes in the field of inertial sensing, as longstanding technological norms are being rapidly redefined. Recent launches of micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) inertial products are now effectively challenging the performance benchmarks set by Fiber-Optic Gyros (FOGs) for the first time. These new products are not only more compact and robust but also consume considerably less power. Our DMU41 9 Degrees of Freedom (DoF) IMU is a prime example of this market disruption.”
He added, “however, we recognize that there is still a vast potential to explore. The next generation of products we are currently developing will further enhance performance, improve endurance, and optimize system size, weight, and power efficiency. I am eager to guide our engineering team as we innovate and launch these new solutions.”
Before his tenure at Silicon Sensing, Dr. Marshall gained valuable experience as a senior research engineer specializing in laparoscopic electro-surgical instruments. He holds a first-class honors degree in Computer Aided Engineering, an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
