Swedish emergency Services Enhance Operations with Cutting-Edge Video Technology
LiveU has equipped Sweden’s Södra Älvsborgs Rescue Service Association (SÄRF) with its state-of-the-art real-time video transmission technology, marking a notable enhancement in their operational capabilities.
Innovative Video Solutions for Emergency Response
LiveU is renowned for its advanced live video broadcasting and streaming technologies tailored for drones and unmanned systems. Utilizing the LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) protocol, their products leverage unique IP bonding technology, facilitating seamless live transmissions over the public Internet from virtually any location.
This robust IP-video technology is pivotal for real-time situational awareness, allowing live video feeds to be sent from the field directly to SÄRF’s command center, thereby aiding in fire prevention, accident response, and training exercises.
Field Operations and Real-Time Monitoring
The LiveU compact LU300S field encoder, paired with a DJI Mavic Pro drone, provides aerial perspectives during critical incidents. This combination allows for live video transmission, enhancing situational awareness, resource management, and post-incident analysis.
Live feeds are directed to the LU2000 server located in the headquarters’ control room, where they are displayed on a large 70-inch monitor. Additionally, data from the live server can be relayed back to field teams as necessary, particularly to team leaders.
Enhanced Capabilities with New Deployments
The recent deployment of LiveU solutions at SÄRF has introduced recording functionalities, creating a comprehensive ‘live and store’ video system that bolsters situational awareness and training applications.
SÄRF emphasizes that this technology significantly enhances their decision-making processes, responsiveness, and overall preparedness for emergencies.Based in Boras, this regional rescue organization operates across six municipalities, managing 25 fire and ambulance stations.
Over 200 LU-Smart mobile applications have been distributed to rescue personnel, particularly benefiting fire truck operators who utilize the app on their personal smartphones.
Collaboration and Integration for Optimal Performance
The setup, equipment, and ongoing support are provided by LiveU’s long-term partner in Sweden, Entercast. This partnership also includes a real-time content-sharing platform from Entercast’s sister company, Vindral, which integrates seamlessly with LiveU’s technology. Encrypted feeds are transmitted from the LU2000 server to the Vindral platform, offering a secure, low-latency web player accessible via a pin number, allowing team members to view live streams on any device.
Paul Shepherd, Channel Sales Director at LiveU, remarked, “Our resilient video solutions are increasingly being utilized for critical public safety applications, enabling emergency teams to respond more swiftly and make informed tactical decisions.”
“SÄRF exemplifies innovation in maximizing the use of our mobile apps and LU300S with drones. It’s impressive to see how they have expanded their situational awareness capabilities across their region using LiveU technology.”
Real-World Applications and Future Prospects
Niklas Ignell, Fire Safety Manager at SÄRF, added, “The saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words. Our experience with LiveU technology over the years has highlighted its reliability, encryption, and user-friendliness as critical advantages.”
“We now operate a complete solution where every team member has the LU-Smart app; firefighters can activate the video app with just two clicks after unlocking their phones. The app is user-friendly for both technical and non-technical personnel. Our fire truck phones, equipped with the app, are the most actively used in the field.”
“With the cloud service, video is automatically recorded, allowing us to analyze critical footage and delete it once the report is finalized. Live streams are transmitted instantly to the main control center, enabling operators to quickly assess if additional resources are required.”
Ignell further noted, “Five of our personnel are certified drone pilots, capable of operating the LU300S during major incidents, such as industrial fires. For instance, during a recent fire at a pizzeria, the LiveU unit and drone were instrumental in ensuring no one was trapped inside.”
“We also deploy the drone and LiveU technology for non-emergency scenarios, such as inspecting the roofs of large facilities during extreme weather. LiveU has become a vital component in our training and education programs, particularly for handling hazardous materials.”
