Swissdrones Triumphs in UAV Inspection Challenge for French Power Lines
Swissdrones has achieved a important milestone by successfully addressing a challenge posed by Réseau de transport d’Électricité (RTE), the French power line operator. This initiative is part of RTE’s MOMARTE program, aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the company’s aerial inspection capabilities.
Among various contenders, Swissdrones stood out by meeting the stringent requirements set forth by RTE. The task involved deploying inspection drones to autonomously navigate a 1 to 2 km segment of a 400 kV power line stretching between Éguzon and Rueyres, capturing high-resolution images of the infrastructure. RTE had strategically placed a segment of cut cable along the line, wich was later identified through the imagery processed by RTE’s automated inspection algorithms.
To achieve this goal, Swissdrones utilized a compact helicopter drone equipped to carry multiple payloads, including two 100 MP cameras and a 150 MP camera. The drone followed a meticulously preprogrammed flight path. In developing their UAV platform, Swissdrones collaborated with phase One and GGS Solutions, combining expertise to enhance the inspection process.
