Teledyne Marine has introduced the BlueStreamX2, a revolutionary enhancement that effectively doubles the data transmission rate for Benthos Acoustic Modems operating within the WideBand C frequency, all while preserving their interaction range capabilities.
this state-of-the-art upgrade is now accessible across the entire Benthos modem lineup, including the Acoustic Telemetry Modem (ATM), compact Modem (CM), and Ultra Compact Modem (UCM), in addition too UTS topside systems.
Benthos acoustic modems are renowned for their dependable underwater data transmission, utilizing advanced digital signal processing modulation techniques. Traditionally, these modems have functioned within a 5 kHz bandwidth, achieving bit rates of up to 2400 bits per second.
With the introduction of the BlueStreamX2, the bandwidth has been expanded to 10 kHz, effectively doubling the data rate to 4800 bits per second.
this significant advancement is attributed to the innovative design of high-frequency transducers, wich enhance performance across the frequency range of 20 kHz to 30 kHz. while the WideBand C transducer has been a fundamental component since the UCM’s launch in 2020, the new firmware maximizes its capabilities, enhancing both speed and efficiency in underwater data communication.
Importantly, all command structures, specifications, and operational parameters remain consistent, ensuring compatibility with previous generations of Band C modems. The BlueStreamX2 upgrade is specifically designed for modems utilizing the WideBand C transducer and is not applicable to older Band C modems or low-frequency (LF) and medium-frequency (MF) products.
Carl Mancuso, the Product Line Manager at Benthos, stated, “The primary advantage of adopting the broader 10 kHz bandwidth is our ability to double the acoustic data throughput while still preserving the same communication range. The BlueStreamX2 innovation offers both speed and distance.”
