Teledyne Marine Launches the SeaBat T51-S: A New Era in Subsea Mapping

teledyne Marine has unveiled the SeaBat T51-S, a cutting-edge multibeam echosounder tailored for subsea exploration.

This innovative device is engineered for deployment on remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (auvs), making it ideal for deep-sea investigations and underwater surveys.

SeaBat T51-S features 800kHz full swath capability and is depth-rated to 6000m.

Unmatched Depth and Versatility

The ‘S’ in SeaBat T51-S signifies its subsea capabilities, allowing it to function at remarkable depths of up to 6000 meters. Housed in a robust, pressure-resistant casing, the SeaBat T51-S incorporates all the advanced functionalities of its predecessor, the SeaBat T51, while enhancing its adaptability for underwater missions beyond traditional vessel-based operations. This model extends the SeaBat series’ reach into extreme depths, making it suitable for the most challenging subsea tasks.

Key Advantages of the SeaBat T51-S

  • Exceptional Data Quality: The SeaBat T51-S produces remarkably clean data with minimal false positives, ensuring precise survey results and significantly reducing the need for extensive post-processing.
  • High-Resolution Imaging: With the ability to identify small objects like cables and rocks as tiny as 0.3 meters, the SeaBat T51-S provides detailed seabed imagery. This high resolution is achieved through its narrow receiver beamwidth of 0.25°.
  • Wider Swath Coverage: The SeaBat T51-S boasts an impressive 170° swath width at 800 kHz, allowing it to cover a larger seabed area in a single pass, thus enhancing efficiency and minimizing survey duration.
  • advanced Automation: Featuring sophisticated automated controls, the SeaBat T51-S includes integrated ‘Tracker’ technology that adjusts sonar settings in real-time, simplifying operations and reducing the need for specialized training.

Industry Insights

Pim Kuus, Senior Hydrographer and Product Manager at Teledyne Marine, stated, “The SeaBat T51-R has set the standard for multibeam systems, and the anticipation for the T51-S has been immense. We are excited to meet user expectations with a system that offers unparalleled subsea mapping resolution while maintaining superior data quality.”

Upcoming Launch Event

The SeaBat T51-S will be showcased at Teledyne Marine’s stand T7 during Ocean Business 2025. Attendees will have the prospect to see the SeaBat T51 in action on autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) at Teledyne Marine’s dockside area (HS02) and during live demonstrations aboard the CRC GALAXY.
