A recent project required the creation of a complete 3D model of a pavilion situated within a residential area. Traditional aerial surveys fell short in delivering sufficient data for an accurate 3D representation, primarily due to the drone’s limited aerial viewpoint. Consequently, critical interior and exterior sections of the structure were left unmodeled, resulting in an incomplete representation.

Using standard photography was not a viable alternative, as it lacked precise location data and often resulted in misalignment between ground and aerial imagery. Additionally, the manual processing of these images proved to be both time-consuming and labor-intensive. The i93 GNSS receiver, equipped with cutting-edge GNSS, RTK, IMU, and dual-camera video photogrammetry technologies, was chosen for this endeavor due to its ability to facilitate rapid and precise data collection in the field.

While aerial surveys can amass substantial data quickly, conducting these surveys in intricate urban settings introduces distinct challenges. safety concerns related to high-rise buildings and power lines restrict the operational altitude and area for drones in metropolitan areas. To mitigate these challenges, ground surveying technologies like the i93 GNSS enhance aerial data collection, ensuring a more comprehensive dataset for 3D building modeling.
