uAvionix Merges with Iris Automation: A Leap Forward in Aviation Safety
uAvionix has officially acquired Iris Automation, a leader in optical Detect and Avoid (DAA) technology.
This strategic acquisition merges uAvionix’s extensive knowledge in communication, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) with Iris Automation’s expertise in computer vision systems designed for the safe separation of aircraft.
In addition to enhancing uAvionix’s service offerings, this acquisition signifies a pivotal leadership transition, with Jon Damush, the former CEO of Iris Automation, stepping into the role of CEO at uAvionix Corporation.
“the integration of Iris Automation’s technology with uAvionix’s capabilities creates a robust safety framework that facilitates the incorporation of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) into the National airspace System,” stated Paul Beard, CTO and Founder of uAvionix. “Together, we are addressing the two primary technical hurdles to UAS integration: Command and Control, and Detect and Avoid. Overcoming these challenges will enhance safety for all airspace users.”
Creating a Safer and More Efficient Airspace
With a wealth of experience in avionics advancement and certification across crewed, uncrewed, and defense sectors, uAvionix has consistently delivered innovative and cost-effective solutions that foster cooperative communication and situational awareness for all airspace users, from high altitudes to ground level. Meanwhile, Iris Automation’s groundbreaking airborne and ground-based optical systems provide essential non-cooperative situational awareness, crucial for the seamless integration of both crewed and uncrewed aircraft. This collaboration positions uAvionix to equip aviators with the certified avionics, aviation data, and safety solutions necessary for a fully integrated airspace.
Jon Damush Takes the Helm as CEO of uAvionix Corporation

In his new role, Jon Damush enhances the existing leadership team at uAvionix, bringing over three decades of experience in aviation technology. His extensive background in engineering for both crewed and uncrewed aviation, software development, and systems integration positions him as a forward-thinking leader to steer uAvionix’s expansion across various sectors, including General Aviation, Uncrewed Aviation, Defense, and Aviation Networks.
“Jon Damush’s appointment as CEO is a strategic win for uAvionix. His remarkable experience and vision align seamlessly with our mission to enhance aviation safety and efficiency,” remarked David Page,Partner at DC Capital Partners. “The integration of iris’ optical technology with uAvionix’s existing solutions solidifies our market position in Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.”
The merger with Iris Automation, along with Jon Damush’s leadership, strengthens uAvionix’s status as a frontrunner in the safe and efficient integration of UAS into the National Airspace. By creatively merging its aviation expertise with Iris’ advanced technological systems, the company is paving the way for a new era of safety and efficiency in aviation.
