UAvionix Launches Game-Changing Wearable ADS-B Receiver for UAS Operations!

uAvionix announces skyAlert, a rugged, wearable ADS-B receiver purpose-built for professional UAS pilots and their visual observers

uAvionix Launches Innovative Wearable ADS-B Receiver for UAS Operations

uAvionix has launched skyAlert, a durable, wearable ADS-B receiver specifically designed for professional UAS operators and their visual observers.

Crafted for practical field use, skyAlert provides audible warnings to users about incoming ADS-B-equipped aircraft, significantly improving airspace awareness and safety during intricate drone operations. The device delivers real-time audio alerts when manned aircraft enter a customizable proximity zone, allowing drone operators and observers to concentrate on their drone and payload without the distraction of checking a display.

Thoroughly tested in the field, skyAlert meets the increasing demand for enhanced safety in low-altitude drone missions, especially those near obstacles like power lines, towers, and buildings. With a user-configurable audio warning system, the device ensures that operators and observers can maintain a “heads-up” position, preventing the need to divert attention from critical flight tasks.

Users can adjust skyAlert’s detection settings by defining specific altitude and range thresholds. This customizable alert zone guarantees that warnings are issued only when necessary, reducing false alarms and providing tailored situational awareness—ideal for tasks such as infrastructure inspections, agricultural spraying, or construction oversight.

Beyond audio alerts, skyAlert is compatible with a variety of Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) applications through the GDL-90 protocol. This integration allows the visual observer or pilot to track nearby ADS-B aircraft on a mobile device, adding an extra layer of safety and tactical awareness. Supported EFBs include foreflight, SkyDemon, FlyQ, OzRunways, AvPlan, among others.

Christian Ramsey, Chief Commercial Officer at uAvionix, stated, “skyAlert demonstrates uAvionix’s steadfast commitment to advancing aviation safety. By offering immediate audio warnings of nearby ADS-B equipped aircraft, SkyAlert enables UAS operators and visual observers to stay focused and proactive in ensuring flight safety and compliance.”

skyalert is specifically designed for high-risk,mission-critical drone operations where situational awareness is paramount. It enhances safety during utility and infrastructure inspections by assisting operators in detecting nearby helicopters while navigating close to power lines, bridges, rooftops, or construction sites. In agricultural contexts,it acts as a crucial tool for preventing conflicts between Uncrewed Aerial Applicator Systems (UAAS) and low-flying crop-dusting aircraft. For public safety and emergency response missions—such as Drone as First Responder (DFR) deployments, wildfire monitoring, or disaster response—SkyAlert offers essential airspace awareness in environments where both crewed and uncrewed aircraft are active concurrently.

Notable Features of skyAlert

  • Wearable, self-contained ADS-B receiver optimized for UAS field operations
  • Customizable alert parameters (altitude and range) tailored to mission requirements
