Gotonomi’s satellite communication (satcom) terminals enable reliable and secure data transmission beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) for autonomous aerial vehicles.
The company’s compact satcom and cellular connectivity solutions have been rigorously evaluated with a variety of drone types, including quadcopters, fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), helicopters, and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
In remote areas and under challenging conditions, satcom solutions provide essential support where conventional communication methods, such as cellular networks or radio links, may fall short. These systems are versatile, serving numerous applications that demand dependable,long-range connectivity, including surveillance, environmental monitoring, search and rescue operations, and inspections.
Overview of Gotonomi Satcom Terminals
- V200 Terminal: A extensive, ready-to-use solution that delivers satellite connectivity with minimal setup required. It features an integrated antenna for ease of use.
- Velaris Module + 200A Omni Antenna: This module is designed for low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) configurations, providing an optimal satellite connectivity solution for UAV airframe integration.
- Multilink Terminal: This terminal merges the velaris module with LTE connectivity and onboard edge computing capabilities, significantly reducing SWaP, particularly with integrated video compression software for efficient data transmission.
the gotonomi 200A Omni antenna is the recommended and certified solution for Gotonomi terminals, boasting an IP67 rating for enhanced durability. For specific airframes, the Cobham LGA-3000 antenna is also a viable option. Furthermore, these terminals are fully compatible with ArduPilot, the open-source autopilot system for UAVs.
Gotonomi terminals operate on an 18–36 V DC power supply, consuming around 20 watts at peak data rates, with maximum loads reaching up to 40 watts. Typically, an additional heatsink is necessary for optimal performance.
These terminals have received type approval for use on the Viasat L-band network, part of the Viasat Velaris service. This service supports aviation safety communications globally, utilizing six L-band satellites, with three more I-8 satellites set to launch soon to enhance coverage.
gotonomi offers four customized 12-month plans for their terminals: 175MB, 500MB, 1GB, and 2.5GB. Any additional data usage beyond the monthly limit will incur extra charges.
In addition to data transfer, Gotonomi terminals can facilitate video streaming, utilizing software from partner company Videosoft. They provide stable long-range connectivity with speeds of up to 200kbps for both uploads and downloads, surpassing customary line-of-sight methods.
Gotonomi terminals offer global satellite coverage down to a 20° elevation angle. A partnership with Viasat is underway to extend this coverage to a 5° elevation.
Both Gotonomi terminals and the Viasat network employ encryption in accordance with 3GPP standards during data transmission. The data is processed through a secure, dedicated network infrastructure. Additionally, the terminal has successfully undergone security evaluations and penetration testing by an independent agency.
