Persistent Systems has unveiled its latest Broadcast Auxiliary Service (BAS)-Band module designed for the MPU5,a mobile ad hoc networking (MANET) radio system that facilitates the transmission and relay of voice, video, text, and various IP data in a dynamic,peer-to-peer environment.
This innovative radio module, operating within the 2025 to 2150 MHz frequency range, has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for deployment by television and radio broadcasters. Additionally, it includes a dedicated BAS channel authorized for use by the Department of Defense (DoD) in small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS). Users of the MPU5 broadcast system can utilize the MANET for a wide array of applications, such as:
- streaming live events
- Gathering news electronically (ENG)
- Reporting in subterranean, urban, and rural settings
- Integrating IP-based news systems
- Facilitating two-way communications

“The MPU5 radio, combined with our Wave Relay MANET, empowers broadcasters and ENG professionals to utilize their current equipment on a network they control, ensuring complete wireless mobility and the capability to establish their network as swiftly as news events develop,” stated Kayla Lively, the Live Event Broadcasting and ENG Account Manager at Persistent Systems.
The introduction of the BAS module comes on the heels of Persistent’s recent launch of the Upper C-Band module, which is certified for unlicensed operation within the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) Band, thereby allowing broadcasters to access additional unlicensed frequencies as required.
