Hexagon | NovAtel has introduced the NovAtel Application Suite Version 2.0, which now features the GRIT Monitor application designed for GNSS interference analysis.
This latest version enhances the user interface, ensures firmware compatibility, and adds support for MarinePak,along with an upgraded Manage application that replaces the previous Setup & Monitor functionality.
The revamped Manage application now offers capabilities such as device configuration uploads and downloads via the Device dashboard, along with enhanced L-Band and SBAS support within the Satellite View and Tracking sections.
For a detailed overview of all modifications, users can refer to the Release Notes included with the NovAtel Application Suite download. To achieve optimal performance, it is advisable to use firmware version 7.09.00 or later for the receiver.
Understanding GRIT – GNSS Resilience and Integrity technology
The GNSS Resilience and Integrity Technology (GRIT) Monitor application empowers users to monitor radio frequency (RF) interference through an intuitive dashboard, facilitating informed decision-making to ensure reliable positioning.
GRIT represents a sophisticated RF interference detection and mitigation solution available across all OEM7 GNSS receiver products, including standalone cards and enclosures like SMART Antennas, PwrPak, and MarinePak.
According to Hexagon | NovAtel, GRIT Monitor is the pioneering RF interference visualization tool that provides a real-time, consolidated view of all pertinent data within a single dashboard, eliminating the need for users to toggle between multiple applications to assess their RF surroundings and positioning. This streamlines operational response times when interference is detected.
The thorough GRIT Monitor application in NovAtel Application Suite Version 2.0 includes:
Positioning and Device Status Overview
- Device Manager – A dashboard displaying status summaries for all receivers linked to the NovAtel Application Suite.
- Map View – Illustrates the locations of all connected receivers on a global map.
- Spectrum View – Provides RF spectrum graphs for all connected devices.
Mitigation Assistant
Detects RF interference and suggests mitigation strategies.
Interactive Spectrum Viewer
Displays all constellations and frequency bands (spectrum and waterfall).
- Spectrum Viewer – A comprehensive graph of the entire GNSS spectrum received by the device.
- Filtering – Allows users to apply filters to minimize interference for receivers equipped with full GRIT capabilities.
- Spectrum Zoom – Enables users to focus on specific areas of interest within the spectrum.
- Waterfall view – A top-down depiction of the spectrum with a heat map to highlight short-duration interference spikes.
Signal Matrix
An easy-to-navigate grid displaying individual satellite signal quality and interference effects categorized by constellation and frequency band.
Position Overview Map
Displays the user’s location alongside interference events on a map.
- Point-of-Interest (POI) export – Allows users to export POIs to a KML file for use in Google Earth.
- Automatic POI Triggers – The receiver automatically generates POIs when specific event inputs (e.g., connected sensors) are activated.
- POI GeoGate Areas – Alerts users when they enter or exit a designated POI radius.
spoofing Detection Configuration
Adjusts the receiver settings to identify potential spoofing incidents for devices with full GRIT functionality.
