Unmanned Aerial Survey Unveils Exciting Titanium Discovery in Canada!

Drawing on its Sensus M8-XP multirotor UAV, ISS Aerospace has conducted a magnetometer survey to locate titanium in Canada’s remote regions

Aerial Survey Uncovers Titanium Deposits in Canada

Innovative UAV Survey Reveals Titanium Resources in Canada

In 2022,ISS Aerospace executed a groundbreaking unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) magnetometer survey in the remote northeastern region of Canada, utilizing their advanced Sensus M8-XP multirotor UAV.

Objective of the Survey

The primary aim of this expedition was to identify potential titanium deposits. By employing a flux gate magnetometer array attached to the Sensus M8-XP, the team focused on locating hidden ore reserves. In this context, iron ore was used as a key indicator for titanium, due to it’s magnetic properties linked to ferrous content.

Challenges of the Terrain

The survey site was fraught with challenges, characterized by a rugged landscape filled with steep elevations and dense forests. The challenging terrain, along with numerous shallow rivers and waterways, made it impossible for customary vehicles to access the area. As an inevitable result, all personnel and equipment movements relied solely on manned helicopters.

Advantages of UAV Technology

Previous aerial surveys conducted with crewed aircraft had fallen short, lacking the necessary resolution and coverage for effective ground exploration. The UAV method proved to be a game-changer, providing superior detail in survey lines, enhanced low-altitude flight capabilities, cost efficiency, and reduced safety risks for the team.

Operational Efficiency

The operations were executed seamlessly, utilizing Sensus command units and specialized mission planning software. Technicians entered the survey coordinates into the software, segmenting the task into manageable sectors that corresponded to different parts of the target area.

Autonomous Flight and Safety Features

Once the flight plan was uploaded, the UAV autonomously navigated the designated route, employing laser and radar altimeters to maintain precise elevation above the varied landscape. Additionally, the Sensus UAV is equipped with a complete 360° collision avoidance system to navigate around potential obstacles.

Comprehensive UAV Package

ISS Aerospace provides the UAV configuration used in this survey as a complete, ready-to-deploy package. The Sensus M8-XP UAV utilized in this operation boasts:

  • Autonomous Navigation along Pre-Planned Routes
  • High-Resolution 3D Magnetic mapping Capabilities
  • A Robust 360º Collision Avoidance System
  • Advanced Laser and Radar Altimeters
