Introducing the Tronics AXO315: A Breakthrough in MEMS Accelerometer Technology
TDK Corporation has unveiled the tronics AXO315,a compact,high-performance single-axis closed-loop MEMS accelerometer featuring a 24-bit digital SPI interface. This innovative device rivals the performance of traditional analog quartz accelerometers, surpassing existing commercial MEMS sensors while avoiding dual-use export restrictions.
Exceptional Performance under Challenging Conditions
The AXO315 employs a force-rebalance mechanism, achieving a remarkable one-year composite bias repeatability of 1 mg and a composite scale factor repeatability of 600 ppm, even in extreme temperature and vibration scenarios typical in industrial, land, railway, naval, and construction sectors. These attributes significantly minimize the size, weight, and material costs associated with industrial motion control units, Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), and inertial Navigation Systems (INS).
Precision and Reliability in a Compact Design
This accelerometer operates within a ±14 g range and boasts an extraordinary bias instability of 4 µg, a velocity random walk of 0.006 m/s/√h, and exceptionally low noise levels of 15 μg/√Hz. These features ensure high resolution and minimal error rates. Designed for high precision and reliability, the AXO315 maintains a 1 mg composite bias repeatability across a temperature spectrum of -55 °C to +105 °C, while effectively handling vibrations of up to 4 g.
Unmatched Performance and Cost Efficiency
The AXO315 matches the performance of traditional analog quartz accelerometers and mechanical inclinometers but does so at a significantly reduced size, weight, and cost. It outperforms all currently available MEMS sensor components, offering an 80% enhancement in temperature stability compared to Tronics’ previous model, the AXO®215. This new accelerometer enhances the existing Tronics lineup of high-performance GYPRO® digital gyroscopes, ideal for advanced IMUs and INS applications. Housed in a lightweight 1.4 g hermetic SMD J-lead ceramic package (12 x 12 x 5 mm), it facilitates cost-effective assembly and reliability on pcbs, even under rapidly changing temperature conditions.
Ideal Applications for the AXO315
With its outstanding performance and durability, the AXO315 is perfectly suited for applications demanding high accuracy and stability in tough environments. This includes servo inclinometers and dynamic inclinometers used in industrial motion control units, IMUs, and INS for GNSS-aided positioning, as well as navigation systems for both manned and unmanned ground vehicles and trains.
Manufacturing and Availability
The AXO315 accelerometers are produced, tested, and calibrated at Tronics Microsystems’ facility located in Grenoble, France. Pre-production and customer sampling have commenced, and developers can evaluate the sensors using an Arduino-based evaluation kit designed to enhance testing capabilities, including output reading, recording, recalibration, and digital self-tests.Full-scale production and distribution through the company’s network are anticipated by summer 2021.
