Unveiling the HF-TOA288-SDI Heavy Fuel Engine at XPONENTIAL 2024

Suter Industries is set to introduce its latest heavy fuel engine, the HF-TOA288-SDI, at the upcoming XPONENTIAL 2024 event in San Diego, located at Booth #3650.

collaboration with UAV Propulsion Tech

Representing Suter Industries in the U.S.,UAV Propulsion Tech will also showcase its innovations at Booth #3648 during the event.

Engine Specifications and design

This new UAV engine, boasting 22.5 horsepower, has been meticulously engineered to cater to the increasing global demand for jet fuel-compatible engines (Jet-A1, JP5, JP8), aligning with the safety and logistical needs of clients worldwide.

With over 300 gasoline TOA288 engines already produced, the rising interest in larger heavy fuel UAV engines for Group 3 UAVs has prompted the progress of this advanced model.

The Suter HF-TOA288-SDI features a twin-cylinder, horizontally opposed, air-cooled, two-stroke design, equipped with semi-direct fuel injection and a starter/generator rated at 1 kW (with an optional 2 kW upgrade).

  • Displacement: 288 cm³
  • Power Output: 16.5 kW (22.5 HP) at 6500 rpm

Expert Collaboration for Enhanced Performance

This engine is the result of a partnership with CAE GmbH, merging CAE’s extensive 25-year expertise in both manned and unmanned two-stroke engines with Suter’s rich history in two-stroke motorcycle design and manufacturing.

The outcome is a high-performance, dependable UAV engine that is currently manufactured in Switzerland.

industry insights

Dietrich Kehe, CEO and founder of CAE GmbH, remarked, “This engine advances two-stroke heavy fuel combustion technology, ensuring reliable performance across varying operational conditions, including hot, cold, and high-altitude environments.

Lars Jäger, Chief Strategy Officer of Suter Industries, added, “We are committed to enhancing our capabilities, workforce, and facilities to elevate our aerospace engine solutions, addressing the demanding performance and delivery expectations of our customers.
