VectorNav and KVH Join Forces to Revolutionize Precision Inertial Navigation Systems

VectorNav Technologies and KVH Industries have announced that KVH’s fiber optic gyro (FOG)-based 1750 IMU and 1775 IMU will now be offered

VectorNav Technologies has partnered with KVH Industries to integrate KVH’s fiber optic gyro (FOG)-based 1750 IMU and 1775 IMU into VectorNav’s VN-210 and VN-310 Tactical Series GNSS-aided inertial navigation systems, enhancing their operational capabilities.

The collaboration merges KVH’s advanced FOG technology with VectorNav’s sophisticated filters and high-performance navigation algorithms, resulting in a Tactical Series that offers a compelling choice to larger inertial navigation systems. This integration substantially boosts accuracy in demanding environments, notably for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other autonomous platforms.

“We are excited to incorporate KVH technology into our Tactical Series, providing our clients with the option of a FOG-based IMU for enhanced precision across various challenging applications,” stated Jakub Maslikowski, VectorNav’s director of sales and marketing.

While VectorNav’s Tactical Series features an onboard microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based IMU, which is advantageous for applications with strict size and weight limitations, the most rigorous applications necessitate the superior inertial accuracy that only FOG-based IMUs can deliver.

The Tactical Series equipped with KVH FOG-based imus is ideal for a variety of applications, including SATCOM-on-the-Move, camera stabilization and gimbal control, targeting and stabilization for weapon systems, autonomous vehicle navigation, LiDAR mapping, georeferencing, and any scenario where MEMS solutions fall short in accuracy and precision.

“The integration of VectorNav’s Tactical Series with our FOG-based IMUs offers an remarkable solution for applications demanding advanced inertial navigation capabilities and the performance of FOG-level IMUs,” remarked Jay Napoli, vice president of FOG/OEM sales at KVH.

A single cable connects KVH’s 1750 IMU or 1775 IMU directly to the auxiliary port on the VN-210 or VN-310, creating a fully integrated FOG-based inertial navigation system. This setup ensures high-accuracy, continuous positioning, velocity, and attitude solutions.
