Introducing Advanced Embedded Solutions: XPedite7674 and XPedite7676
Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) has unveiled its latest innovations in embedded computing with the launch of the XPedite7674 and XPedite7676, both utilizing the Intel Xeon D-1500 family of processors. These 3U VPX single board computers are designed to accommodate up to 16 Xeon-class cores within a single, energy-efficient System-on-Chip (SoC) configuration, offering native extended temperature support across various core-count options, including four, eight, and twelve cores.
Performance and Versatility of XPedite7674
The XPedite7674 model stands out as a robust Intel Xeon D-1500 processor-based 3U VPX single board computer, capable of supporting up to 16 core-count configurations, with native extended temperature support available for up to 12 cores. This board is engineered for high performance and reliability in demanding environments.
Equipped with a user-configurable Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA module, the XPedite7674 enhances both performance and security across a variety of embedded applications. It features up to 8 GB of DDR4-2133 ECC SDRAM, over 1 million logic cells, and advanced system logic cell packing to minimize dynamic power consumption.Additionally, it supports a DeepCover Security Manager for secure supervisory functions, making it a reliable choice for critical applications.
Enhanced I/O Capabilities
The XPedite7674 offers a comprehensive range of I/O options through its VPX connectors, including dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-KR), a SATA port with 6 Gb/s capability, USB 2.0, and RS-232/422/485 serial ports. the FPGA also provides GPIO, 1000BASE-X Gigabit Ethernet, and High-Speed Serial ports, ensuring versatile connectivity.
Furthermore, the XMC site supports an x8 PCI Express Gen3-capable port and a SATA port, along with XMC P16 I/O, adhering to VITA 46.9 standards. This combination allows for enhanced networking capabilities and accelerated computing, all while maintaining Xeon-class reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS).
Security Features of XPedite7676
Conversely, the XPedite7676 is a secure variant of the Intel Xeon D-1500 processor-based 3U VPX single board computer, also supporting up to 16 core-count configurations with native extended temperature support for up to 12 cores. This model integrates SecureCOTS technology alongside a Microsemi SmartFusion2 security SoC, designed to safeguard data integrity by preventing unauthorized modifications or observations.
The SmartFusion2 SoC enhances security by controlling, intercepting, and monitoring the Xeon D subsystem, implementing penalties as necessary, and interfacing directly with the system through I/O connected to the VPX backplane. Additional circuit board enhancements and optimized Two-Level Maintainance (2LM) metalwork further bolster the physical security of the hardware.
Flexible I/O and Connectivity
The XPedite7676’s XMC site supports a diverse range of I/O configurations, including X24s+X8d+X12d, which allows for extensive flexibility in mezzanine card integration. This I/O configuration routes nearly all mezzanine I/O from P16 directly to the VPX P1 connector. Additionally, it features an x8 PCI express Gen3-capable port and six SmartFusion2 GPIO interfaces.
Connectivity options include dual 10GBASE-KR 10 gigabit Ethernet, 10/100/1000BASE-T gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, SATA ports with 6 Gb/s capability, RS-232/422/485 serial, dual x4 PCI Express Gen3, and GPIO, all routed to the backplane VPX connectors.
Software support and Reliability
Both the XPedite7674 and XPedite7676 are compatible with the Wind River VxWorks Board Support Package (BSP) and coreboot firmware powered by Intel FSP, enabling rapid boot times of under 2.5 seconds. They also support the X-ES Enterprise Linux (XEL) BSP, ensuring a reliable and efficient operating environment for embedded applications.
